Church History

Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church of Northwest Indiana came into existence in 1994 with 34 members. Land was purchased in 1996, and the current church building was completed by the end of 1999. Currently, Grace has over 200 members.

Pastor Frederic Lams retired in May 2021, after more than 27 years as our Pastor. In November 2021, Pastor David H. Locklair was installed as our new Pastor.

Since its beginning, Grace has been part of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod. The ELS carries on an active home mission program and now has more than 140 congregations in many states. It also has foreign missionaries laboring in Peru and Chile in South America, the Ukraine and the Czech Republic in Eastern Europe, and South Korea in Asia, while also sponsoring mission work in Australia.

EVANGELICAL: Committed to proclaiming the message of good news, “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” – John 3:16

LUTHERAN: Committed to proclaiming the following principals: SCRIPTURE ALONE, GRACE ALONE, and FAITH ALONE. The Bible is the only source of belief, and its primary teaching is salvation by grace alone through faith in our Savior Jesus Christ.

SYNOD: Committed with other congregations under God to carry out the Great Commission: “Go and make disciples of all nations.” – Matthew 28:19

Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church exists today to proclaim that we are saved from sin, death, the devil, and hell by God’s undeserved love and kindness – His GRACE alone – through faith in Jesus Christ!

TO GOD ALONE BE THE GLORY!
